What programs do i need on my web server to run a joomla site?

Better use XAMP, (linux and windows), it has most complete feature for server:PHP, Mysql, Phpmyadmin, Mail server, FTP server, etc
If you use for LAN, you can use it, but for internet, better find good hosting.
Free hosting ussually doesn’t suppot Curl and Fsockopen.
